Plus: Lamp O'Clock, Fall's Historical Headgear, and Advent Prep

I was at a store yesterday, and Christmas music was playing. Cue eye-roll, right? I know this isn’t anything new. We’ve skipped over Thanksgiving for some time now. But it got me thinking…

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a ā€œCelebrate Christmas during Christmas!ā€ kind of gal, but I can’t let November be a wash. I’m determined to do it.

I’m going to buy all.the.things. Before Thanksgiving. Or at least I intend to.

With that spirit, we’ve got a few ideas to help your November be an Advent-prep month, so you can really enter into the season without hyperventilating.

But also:

  • Celebrities: They aren’t all bad

  • SAD: Don’t be afraid of the dark

  • Trends: Boyfriends have been groomed

  • The Beret: And it’s split personality

  • Poetry: For the month of November

TRADITIONS: Halloween is over. You know what that means.šŸŽ„No need to drag out the blow-up Grinch just yet. But, maybe get ready for those Advent traditions. Invest now in a peaceful Advent. Like, round up your Chrismtas picture books, purchase your candles, and get going on those Christmas lists. And don’t forget you, boo.😘 This is the perfect Advent read, but this new one is bound to be a classic.

SAY CHEESE! (Don’t forget your family picture outfits!)

MENTAL HEALTH: Hello Darkness, my old friend. With daylight savings behind us, we’re entering the darkest days of the year. Get ahead of SAD this November. Put a little light on the situation: Get morning light in your eyes or try a light box indoors for those bleak days. Start a new tradition of an after-dinner walk with the fam or a Sunday hike—anything to get outside. And, prevention is key. Beef up your mental health toolkit.

FASHION HISTORY: Who wore it better? Artists or revolutionaries? My vote is the mom with unwashed hair.šŸ™‹ Berets are the baby of the ancient pileus, a felt hat given to slaves upon the day of their freedom. It’s even pictured on Roman coins as a symbol of freedom. It gained popularity, and eventually artists (think Cezanne and Rembrandt), the military, and rebels like the Black Panthers and Beatniks donned the brimless hat. It’s still popular and timeless today—and a symbol of power and rebellion. And what’s more rabble-rousing than being a feminine woman and/or mother?

So, here’s how to rock the beret. And, a classic style, a pillbox twist, a trendy look, and a wild print for all you rebels-with-a-cause out there.

TRENDING: If you need a makeover, get a girlfriend. The Girlfriend Effect has been taking TikTok by storm. It’s basically the effect women have on their boyfriend’s glow-ups with lots of before and after pictures of their men. And there’s an equation. Spending more time with your gf = increased fashion sense. Unfortunately, the reverse is true for married women- or so that’s what TikTok says. The husband effect is when women’s physical appearance falls apart after marriage. Wait—isn’t that called ā€œletting yourself goā€? Rest assured - marital unbliss is just what they want you to believe. Stats say otherwise.

Here’s what he wore this week.

If I could share a meal with one living person today, it’d be this man.

Emily Dickinson wrote a poem about November. The last lines are quite nice:

Perhaps a squirrel may remain,
My sentiments to share.
Grant me, O Lord, a sunny mind,
Thy windy will to bear!

Can you send some sunshine our way? We’re still trying to hit 4K subscribers! Could you all take a moment and send a text to a few friends who would enjoy Mrs6am? Thanksomuch.
