Clothe Yourself with Knowledge

And clothes, of course. Don't forget the clothes.

Tell me if this is you:

You’ve done the research, you’ve booked your appointment, you’ve paid a babysitter. You show your hairstylist a picture of the cut and color of your dreams. You sit back and enjoy some pampering, only to see yourself two hours later, shorn and $150 poorer, looking like a 4th rate version Jennifer Anniston.

Ugh. Me, too. God bless hair stylists, guys, because it’s not their fault. It’s not Jennifer’s fault. It’s my fault. I don’t have the same facial structure, hair texture and color as that celebrity…or her hair extensions for that matter. 😵‍💫

Today, we’re bringing this folly wisdom to our own fashion sense. Not just taking a look and copying it, but doing the work of finding out how to dress your own bod. Becuase, you deserve to look like you, you know?

BEDTIME: It’s been said that lullabies are a spell. A mother uses them to attempt to transform herself from an ogre back to a saint.😂 There’s truth to that! Lullabies —and group singing— are linked to increased bonding and stress relief. The breathing patterns of lullabies mimic long exhalation techniques to decrease anxiety. That’s bound to put a little more twinkle in your little star.

And in case the lullabies aren’t working - here’s a script from sleep coaches.

FAMILY GOALS: They’ve raised the bar for us. A family of nine was beatified this past Sunday. The Ulma family were martyred for their faith after choosing to hide Jewish families during WWII. The stress of the capture put the mother into labor, and her baby was beatified as well. Here’s prraying we can emulate their self sacrifice and courage. 🙏

PERSONAL STYLE: What’s yours? Sophisticated 70s with a touch of funk? Or more like Didn’t Expect to Get out of the Car? We all wish we could have a complete closet do-over, but when building anything, you need a strong foundation. You’ve got to plan first. Start with dressing with your own body type in mind. Next, get a feel for your color season. Lastly, know your three words. If you’re reallly looking to make a change, you could even capsule.

The, the fun part—shopping! But, in case you don’t have the budget for a closet makeover 🙋🏽‍♀, here are some universal styling tips to get you started:

  1. Believe in the power of a defined waist. Wrap dresses (sustainable and on sale!), belts, and the tucked look are all your friends.

  2. Clean, presentable nails go a long way.

  3.  Cuff like you mean it. Instant polish…and who doesn’t like their wrists?

  4. Go monochrome, but add texture.

  5. Add a hero piece- a beloved statement item (a jacket, heel, hat) that’s an automatic confidence injection

  6. Don’t forget a smile- you’re never fully dressed without it.

Speaking of fashion, it’s almost fall. We’re welcoming sweaters, layers, and berets with open arms. But not everyone may be as excited as Mrs6am. So, I'm curious:

HEALTH: Hold on to your bums! Laxative use is out of control. There’s a major shortage, and it’s not letting up any time soon. Doctors are urging Americans to stop taking laxatives for weight loss. When in doubt, talk to your doctor, increase your magnesium intake, and beware the hot new alternatives. ☕

TRENDS: The Tradwife “trend” was hot this summer. For some, it’s a retro-abusive role that puts women “back under the thumb of men” and has “sinister connections” with right wing extremism. It’s dangerous and stupid. For others, it’s a woman who has clear gender roles within her marriage, a mutual respect with her husband, and tends to the home and children. It’s natural and good. Admittedly, it is difficult to find a media source reporting the tradwife trend as positive, but this woman’s words strike a balance.

Marriage is really about putting another’s needs before your own. Going all out. Mutually. And when we do that, we get great results.👇

A great love between husband and wife can also be the deepest source of happiness this side of heaven.

I don’t know…maybe we should all just live our lives without branding everything? Possibly quit the recording of every (staged and perfected) move? Sigh…Okay, off my soap box and on to milking my cow.

This week, I quote James Clear (author of Atomic Habits) who says: “Speed is perpetually undervalued. Asking that person out today means you get to live more of your life with them and less of your life waiting. Starting your business today means you begin learning immediately and have more time to figure out what works. Go fast. The future is never guaranteed and the right time may never come.”

Thank you, Mr6am. 🤎

I need a little dose of speed in my world. It turns out that today is Thursday, not Wednesday, as I had previously believed when scheduling this post. So enjoy a shorter than normal wait until next Wednesday. ;)

Signing off this week, and wishing you the best!
