Trust in the thrust.

Plus: Postpartum tips, a modesty reflection, and a free gift.

Good Morning, Ladies! Happy Easter! A special hello to all our new subscribers. (And special thanks to the subscribers helping build our community with referrals! 😘). We started Mrs6am with the intention of offering women a trusted resource for news, fashion, beauty, family, health and marriage — with your help we will be the largest newsletter for women on the internet! 🙏 In today’s issue:

  • Hip thrusts are a key exercise for ladies — trust me.

  • Post-baby recovery: the 5-5-5 rule and my well-earned recovery ideas.

  • It’s not “Live, Laugh, Love” — but we are giving you the sign your kitchen is missin’.

  • And a commitment for tough conversations with your kids by Mr6am.

FITNESS: The thrust is a must. The hip thrust does it all: it strengthens your pelvic floor and deep core, decreases back pain, improves your deadlift and squats, prevents injury in runners, and adds to (or perks up) your feminine curves. 🍑 Glutes are one of the most undertrained muscle groups! But they need strengthening — especially if you sit all day. We recommend going heavy with thrusts and use a band. If heavy’s not for you — or if you don’t have a barbell — that’s okay. You don’t have to hit the gym for hip thrusts to be effective. Start with body weight, then add dumbbells when you can. Then graduate to barbell variations like these. Added bonus: they are postpartum friendly, too. 🏋

POSTPARTUM: It’s a fragile time. One moment you feel lonely, overwhelmed, and sad. Next you feel exuberant, exhausted, and empowered. We don’t do postpartum care as well as some other cultures (like “mandated rest!” 😴) but we should learn from them and improve where we can. It’s different for everyone, but attempt to say yes to rest by trying the 5-5-5 rule. Also — indulge a bit. We all know by Baby Number #3, mental health is more valuable than a monogrammed onesie. In that spirit, here are some ideas on how to do postpartum right:

  1. Pretty in PJs: stay in bed for two weeks (practice 5-5-5)

  2. Grab an at home facial.

  3. Ask a girlfriend to bring you a coffee and fold laundry for/with you. (She probably wants to help!)

  4. Sit outside in the sunshine (as your outing for the day).

  5. Buy yourself some dangly earrings and new pants (like these high-rise Mom fits!

  6. Order your favorite takeout.

  7. How about getting a blowout and a mani/pedi (or DIY mani/pedi)?

HEALTH: 🥄 A spoonful of vinegar can help the sugar go down … blood sugar, that is. It turns out insulin resistance is up in women since the pandemic (partially caused by COVID-19). Plus, our modern diets cause massive spikes and low valleys — and the result can be acne, bad sleep, and fat gain. Even worse, insulin resistance doubles the risk of a major depressive episode and diabetes. Yikes. But, there are practical actions you can take to lower your risk and steady the glucose intake. Things like: “clothing your carbs,” (which means adding fats, protein, or fiber to carbs to slow glucose absorption). Also sleep, movement, and a little dose of apple cider vinegar before meals. If only I had gotten to the Hormone Genius’ podcast before getting to the Cadbury Eggs …

JEWLERY: 🎶 Siri - play: “I can buy myself flowers” by Miley Cyrus. 🎶 You can buy yourself flowers! Trendy, beautiful flower jewelry is blooming everywhere this season. (See what I did there? 😏) Pair with a monochromatic outfit and let the flowers do the work. Make a statement with these shoulder-brushing beauties or embrace simplicity with subtle gold. They’re too pricey, but I love them anyway and I know some of you could DIY these botanicals. Bring in spring with a coral set that compliments any hair color.

“According to @protectyoungeyes, we should have 10 solid talks about porn with our children before age 10. Among other great ideas, they recommend reinforcing — “no digital secrets”. This is a high standard of open conversation, but I agree with it and it needs to be done (along with talks on how to protect your own body). It’s a difficult subject, I know. And I have failed miserably at it. But, I’m going to make a commitment today to talk about these issues with my children in April and then again over the next couple of months.” - Mr6am

👏🏽 Kudos for Shyla on leading our referral program! I’m rooting for Shyla to keep referring because the mystery box is going to be so fun to give to her! 🎁 Here’s what Shyla said about her first freebies:

“I just wanted to say thank you for the referral perks that popped up in my email this week after happily sharing with a few friends. The meal plan and artwork were such a treat! Both are as wonderfully curated as your newsletter, the best thing to come across my inbox in awhile! ☺️ ”

Thanks Shyla! You’re the best! Only 1 referral and you’ll get the free meal plan. Here’s what other subscribers are saying:
