The Placenta Tells the Story...
Plus: Decor on a dime, boomer Mom, and blue zone living
Good morning, ladies! And welcome to our 100 new subscribers! Based on President Trump’s recent tweets, we thought we’d be addressing his arrest in this issue, but that didn’t happen. 🫣 So, in today’s issue:
BLUE ZONES: Longer lives in beautiful places.
QUILT QUEENS: Family heirlooms and how to do it.
EASTER GIFTS: Don’t forget your Dude.
BOOMER MOM: Passive aggressive but love her anyway!
HEALTH: 🎶 High-way to the BLUE ZONE 🎶. Add ten years on to your life and live in the most beautiful places in the world? Sign me up! Blue zones are buzzing, and we can’t help but wonder how Sardinia, Okinawa, Icaria, Greece, and Loma Linda, California have pockets of the healthiest people in the world. Well, scientists aren’t exactly sure, but it’s believed that — you guessed it — nutrition is the way to start. Prioritizing these 5 foods combined with the 80% rule (Hara Hachi Bu) could be a perfect, practical combo to make your home a little blue zone haven. But, don’t forget water, tea, coffee, and wine (especially with friends). 🍷
NATIONAL QUILTING DAY: You have an itch to stitch — I know it. Revel in a little blanket beauty. Quilts are time and energy consuming, and creating a family heirloom ain’t for the faint-of-heart. But, you can do it! This tried and true course is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to improve their skills. (Her ombre puff quilt is kinda the new puff jacket for your bed.) This quilt pattern is on my probably-won’t-happen-until-the-kids-are-out-of-the-house list, but a granny can dream. You don’t have to quilt to appreciate the beauty: try this DIY artwork instead. Are textiles a love language? Because I’m smitten stitchen’.
FREE HOME DECOR: Spring has sprung, but that doesn’t mean your wallet needs to feel the breeze.💸 But where to find inexpensive, new home goods? Look no further: you’ve got it already. Instead of inundating you with all the spring lines (aka new stuff you don’t need), here are tips and inspiration to give your house a refresh without spending a dime:
Aggressively declutter. Nothing says “new house” more than an empty house. (Favorite tip is #9.) 📦
Bring in the Spring: Snip some budding branches from your yard (or street) to decorate your mantle or vase.
Nothing anchors and accessorizes a room like a rug. Swap out your rugs between rooms for a new look.
Try my favorite hobby that couples as a workout: change your living room layout. Warning: your son/husband/friend may get tired of this hobby after the fifth time you move the couch…don’t ask me how I know.
Print out fresh, free art! 🖼 Layer modpog over prints for a vintage feel. (This is perfect for a kid’s room, for a pop of color, or for a neutral vibe.)
Take a pretty throw blanket or extra material and drape between your couch back and cusions for a pop of color.
EASTER GIFTS: Often my husband is left with a half eaten Cadbury egg for his Easter basket.🙈 I’m hoping Mr6am will enjoy this spring sweater, his favorite beer, or this beard oil.
TEEN MENTAL HEALTH: Listen, I know social media isn’t the enemy, but I also know I’m more present and content with my home, wardrobe, and breakfast when I steer clear of it, m’kay? So hear me out: this Lent I’ve locked my phone behind two doors and a floor away. It still can be a distraction…but the more I read about the rise in teen girls’ mental health problems, the more I want to be a better example for my own girls. If I can’t have boundaries, how can I expect my children to? In the meantime, I’m asking my senator to support the Bipartisan Kids Online Safety Act, I’m hugging my girls and telling them they are loved and beautiful, and I’m talking to other parents about how social media changes our kid’s brains and what we can do about it.

Forgot socks for your baby again? Don’t worry, Boomer Mom will let you know.
The Dirty Dozen 2023 List is out. Excuse me while I change my grocery order…

Thanks for reading, friends. Mrs6am is a way for us to connect with fun and useful information but without all the cultural garbage (as in, I’m not afraid of what my daughter will see on the screen if she’s in the same room). I’m still finding my voice and would be so appreciative of your feedback — what you like and what you’d like to see more or less of. Could you take a second and fill out our little poll below? Leave some feedback after clicking, and we’ll feature you in a future newsletter or IG post. Thanks again — I’m so glad you’re here.
Until Saturday,
