HOT TIP 🔥 Keep driving.

Just. Keep. Driving.

You’re driving around town and see a beautiful, FREE, vintage couch on the curb. You want it. What next? Yeah, just keep driving. A TikToker recently went viral for rehabbing a dreamy blue velvet tufted couch she found on the curb in New York. She was praised. She was criticized. Not so fast, said entomologists — bed bugs can lie dormant, even without food, for 6 months. As an owner of two thrifted couches, all I can say is … ew.

In today’s issue:

  • Hair-Dos: For oily days 🛢.

  • Get risque risky with your outfits .

  • Goal Digger: June is here — time for some half-year goal-setting.

  • Bring back the fun with family game night.

  • A Danish home with the girliest stairs 💝.

FASHION: Pretty in Print. 🐆 We love the monochrome look, but come summer, go a little wild with print mixing. You can pull off pattern play effortlessly if you follow a couple easy rules. First, know your foundation prints: stripes, polka dots, and leopard prints. These can act as neutral staples. Second, vary the scale of your patterns. (Think: a tiny polka dot print with a larger floral.) Third, Keep the patterns in the same color scheme. Fourth, anchor outfits with a neutral item, like skin-toned shoes or subtle accessories.

Plus, guess what? You can apply these rules to home decor. Take your new found education into your sewing and home design. Setting a table (with this tablecloth and these napkins) is a risk-free place to start. Or how about draping this St. David’s cross throw along the back of your couch?

HAIRDOS: Greasy hair, don’t care. 🤷 Stretch out wash day with some new hair styles that will make you forget your greaser status. You can’t go wrong with a classic pony — but elevate it with this ‘higher and fuller’ hack. Try a Princess Jasmine look or go for a grown-up pigtail. Get angelic with a halo braid, or get clippy with it. A jeweled headband feels like cheating; it’s too easy to be this pretty! When in doubt: just throw on your Mrs6am Dad hat (it’s all yours with 15 referrals!).

DON’T YOU KNOW YOU’RE NON-TOXIC.

GOAL SETTING: Begin again! School is over— or will soon be— and we’re going to sleep with sweet visions of what-summer-could-be in our heads. Before you make your twenty-page summer bucket list, remember SMART goal setting: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time Bound.

Even catchy acronyms aren’t enough sometimes. Add accountabilty. 👯‍♂ My girlfriends and I are all sharing our Habit Tracking for June. I use two of the slots for well-formed habits to continue, two slots for habits to work on, and one for a new habit to introduce. Need some ideas?

Here’s a list to get you started: daily prayer, water intake, 6-second kiss, reading aloud, an extra long hug with each child, a June devotion, reading for pleasure, after-dinner walk, family game night, weekly date nights, taking advantage of the free splash pad, secret acts of service, daily dance parties, practicing an instrument, pulling off the heroic minute, or finally studying beekeeping (or whatever’s got you buzzing).

REMEMBER, THREE TIMES THE CHARM.

GAME NIGHT: “Remember that summer when we played games all the time?!” If you want your kids to have special memories this summer here’s a little secret: just do it four times. That’s all it takes to solidify a tradition in their brains. So, grab some new games or pack of cards and set aside some time for game night. A big bowl of popcorn and root beer make it extra special. Here are our family favorites:

  • Carcassonne: Easy enough for your 5 year old, competitive enough for your teen. Easy cleanup :)

  • Ticket to Ride: A game that doubles as geography lesson? All aboard.

  • Memoir ‘44: A historical game for two nerds players.

  • Dinosaur Tea Party: More complex Guess-Who game. Extra fun if you play with a British accent and pair with tea.

  • When I Dream: Use your imagination to create responses. Better with 6-10 players.

  • Biblios: Strategy, strategy, strategy. Quick card game great for 2-4 competitive people.

  • Love Letter: Our go-to pool game. Elimination style, great for 2-4 players.

WHEN IN DOUBT, STAY CLASSY. 🃏

Retail lines are being drawn in the sand. To avoid the big box stores, we have to have alternatives. If you have a favorite small business, could you hit “reply” and let us know your favorites? Thank you so, so much!

Cheers to June, you lovely ladies, you,
