šŸHealthy Halloween Candy?

Hungover, anyone? šŸ¬ šŸ šŸ«

The sugar crash is real. But, you might be one of those mystical people. The ones who don’t eat their (kids’) Halloween candy all in one sitting. If so, this issue is for you. But also:

  • Kid’s Brains: Wrangling Emotions

  • Fashion Breakup: It’s not me, it’s you.

  • Thrifting: Quick Trick for Quick Trips

  • Laundry: We’re getting intimate

  • Music: The Top 10 (over the Centuries)

HEALTH: It’s hiding in your closet, and it’s calling your name. No, it’s not a monster- it’s your kids’ Halloween stash. It’s okay to indulge, but be educated: go for the top-ranked ā€œhealthiestā€ candy (after a swig of apple cider vinegar, of course). Next, check the expiration. Dieticians suggest getting rid of it by Easter. 😳 If you don’t want to fight a losing battle, get proactive about the leftover candy. Freeze now to decorate gingerbread houses later.

PARENTING: Does one of your children’s emotion tend to run the household? Some studies show that ā€œoverly emotionalā€ kids get stuck on one side of their brain. The good news? We can help to rewire brain for positivity. On a practical level, cursive handwriting can help bridge the gap between the emotional right side to the logical left side of the brain. On a parenting level, this podcast gives clear advice on how to handle tough kids. The short of it? It’s a long game.

FASHION: Slow down there, Shein. The fastest growing fast fashion brand just acquired UK’s fashion brand Missguided, meaning it’s not going anywhere soon. What’s so bad about Shein? Producing 10,000 new garments a day, Shein’s industry revolves around throw-away low cost items. Like, wear-one-day-than-throw-away kind of items. What’s worse is their alleged stealing artists’ designs. Or maybe it was the swastica pendant they sold in 2020? Or maybe the impossible 13.5 hour working days for their slaves empoloyees? It’s time to break-up. Shein, we need to talk…

INTIMATES: Ew, David. How often should you wash your bras? (Hint: It’s more often than you think.) Experts say a bra can be worn 3-4 times, then it needs to be washed. Some even say wash after every other wear. Mind you, this prevents infection, acne, and general stank. To extend the life of you intimates, do it the right way. Use a mesh lingerie bag, wash on delicate, and hang dry.

The Secret Rose, a poem by Yeats, recited by Malcolm Guite

Friends are priceless. Especially friends in High Places. Today, we celebrate all of our heavenly Friends—it’s All Saint’s Day. In our home, it’s tradition to choose a new family saint. (Usually though, these saints choose us.) We ask for that saint’s intercession throughout the year.

And, frankly, I need all the help I can get.

Until next week,
