Marriage Funerals

Plus: Doggie Daycare, Tgiving Pants, & Midwestern Humor

Stuffing Day is coming…but that doesn’t mean you have to stuff yourself.

If you’re a regular overeater on turkey day, here are the top 10 tips to help your gut this Thanksgiving, from a natural medicine perspective.

And yes, it’s okay to indulge…just don’t forget the wardrobe. (You had me at high waisted elastic). 😍

Today’s a quick issue because we all know what’s most important: family hikes, pumpkin pie, and lots of dishwashing dance parties. Here’s the scoop—

  • Up your Cleansing Reg—just in time for Black Friday Sales

  • Marriage Reincarnation

  • Traveling with Gravy

  • A Fido Flu

  • A Clean House Hack

SKIN CARE: Raise your hand if you’re not double-cleansing before bed. 🙈 You! Yes you! Time to get with the program. In a nutshell, your every day cleanser isn’t getting the job done of removing makeup, dead skin, oils, pollutants, etc. So, you need: (1) an oil-based cleanser followed by (2) a water-based cleaner. These are the internet’s fav combos:

Mid-Range option: The Boschia Cool Oil + Clear Complexion Cleanser

For anyone: The InkeyList Duo ($24!?)

Try my favorite first cleanse — green clean balm that melts your makeup away and smells amazing. Currently using Naturiam ginseng balm — super gentle, non-toxic, and scent-free. And second cleanse — this gentle LaRoche Posay and this aloe-vera balancing cleanser. Special thanks to my Korean girlfriend — everything I know about skincare I owe to her (you know who you are!). 😘

MARRIAGE: Mr6am and I feel like we’ve lived many lives together. What do we mean by that?

Everthing about your life will change — your daily schedule, your location and house, your kids (their number, interests, and personalities), your income, your friends, your hobbies, your sex life. Your husband will also change — even in unexpected ways. Author Heidi Priebe said, “To love someone long-term is to attend a thousand funerals of the people they used to be.”

One thing we’ve learned in (just? only?) 16 years of a happy marriage: Remain detached to your current life and cling only to your three most important things.

To be happy, you have to remain detached to the life of yesterday and accept what God brings TODAY. Remain detached but cling to what’s important — pick three non-negotiables. We’ve found that we need faith, fun, and intimacy in some form no matter what. Currently, ours are: daily prayer, early morning exercise together, and regular date nights. Hit reply and tell us your Big Three. The best wisdom is earned…and then shared! 🎁

TRAVEL: Despite inflation and past delays, today’s the busiest travel day of the year. But what to do if you’re the only one to master Grandma Ethel’s cranberry sauce? Here’s the TSA’s rules on soaring with the stuffing in stow. Food that can be spilled, pumped, poured, sprayed should not go in your carry on. Baked goods, stuffing, meats, candy and spices can all go through TSA. Keeping it fresh while traveling? 🥴 That’s a bit trickier than a full-body search. Try a travel crockpot or cooler that almost doubles as a purse.

HEALTH: Vets are baffled. A new doggie disease is spreading throughout the US. And antibiotics aren’t helping. What do you need to know to protect your pup? First, the signs. It starts as a runny nose and sneezing, then progresses to a persistent cough. Next, pneumonia spreads leaving some dogs struggling to breathe. Keeping your dog well hydrated and out of doggie daycare may help. Add one more plate to the Thanksgiving table. ;)

*Here’s my roadmap to happiness as a man:

Pray every day and seek God’s guidance, choose a world class woman, start a family, don’t drift through life / instead make conscious decisions, eat meat, get 7 hours of sleep, no porn, go outdoors, seek mentors, cultivate good friendships, read good books, lift heavy, spend less than you make, work to be optimistic, and find outdoor hobbies. What did I miss? 😎

I know what I’m grateful for —you all here. What a journey! Please, please share this with a friend and win some prizes along the way. Still working towards that 4K:)

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
