FRAGRANCE: Need some date night inspo? Head to the mall! ✋🏽Wait! Hear me out. Last year, Mr6am took me to Nordstrom’s Fragrance Department with a list of perfumes to try. We grabbed their fragrance specialist and she explained all the scents as we tried them on. It’s a great way to get close and learn something new about your spouse! Even if you aren’t ready to splurge, just grab samples and decide later. Fair warning: It’s kind of like lingerie for the nose …

No time for Nordstrom’s? — we have you covered with fresh summer scents. Here’s the science: most perfumes have three distinct layers. They’re complex — just like we are. 😆The top note lasts for 5-15 minutes and gives the first impression. The middle note (usually full-bodied) lasts for 4-6 hours and is the main scent. Finally, the base note gives the fragrance its underlying aroma and lasts around 6 hours. There’s much more to learn — like the 6 different types of perfume. But, you don’t need to know the science or the taxonomy to know what smells good. Draw him close at a summer picnic with these scents:

  • Byredo Young Rose Eau de Parfum — Not just any floral scent, but layered with Sichuan pepper for a romantic blend. The pepper is not overwhelming but brings just enough 🔥.

  • Burberry “Her” — Think: gorgeous house on the beach, hydrangeas everywhere. It’s light and floral, rich and jasminey.

  • Baccarat Rouge 540 — You’ll be obsessed. It’s worth the hype and the price. Flirty and fun, warm and sweet — just like a summer night.

  • Chantecaille Tiare Fragrance — Wear this and you’ll send yourself and your hubby to a tropical oasis — lily of the valley, Italian bergamot, jasmine, red rose, orchids, musk, and vanilla. Skip the beach vacation and spray this in your hair instead.

  • Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau de Toilette — Perfect for every day use. Lime and cedar, a perfect balance between fruity and floral.

Don’t let the prices scare you. 50mL of perfume contains hundreds of sprays and will last close to a year of application a couple times per week. 100 mL could last 2 years.

CHILDREN: Ever had to apologize to your children? Yes, us too … multiple times in one day! 🙈It’s difficult to do, especially when there is some justice in your anger. But it brings healing and grace to family life. So the next time you erupt or overreact, remind yourself: apologizing is not a display of weakness and failure but of strength and humility. We know it feels hokey sometimes to read parenting articles that provide a script, but we think this one’s worth it. Try: “I’m sorry I overreacted” or “Next time I’ll do better.” Teach your children to accept responsibility when they are wrong by modeling it yourself. See? You just scored a parenting win out of a bad day!

And help your 2-5 year olds thrive with this.

FINANCE: Most people don’t know these things exist! “Health sharing” programs (instead of expensive employer-provided health insurance) are viable options for more affordable and effective health care. Extra bonus for removing your family from the bloated and scammy system!

How do they work? They’re all a little different, but basically, every month you send a check directly to another member to help cover their medical expenses. And your medical bills are likewise divided up among other members — they’re always paid in full. Sound risky? 😬 We’ve used Samaritan for over 10 years — it has been seamless with no missing payments. We’ve have had to shop around for certain things (ultrasounds cost 500$ more at the well-known specialty clinic vs. the local hospital?! No thanks!) but it’s opened our eyes to the inflated costs of health care! For a family of 8, we pay about $690/month DIRECTLY to other member families.

Ten years ago there were only 3 options, now there are dozens. There are several Christian-focused ones (like this Catholic one and Dave Ramsey’s version) and also secular ones. Compare your options here, save money, get coverage, and help people directly — rather than enriching the insurance industry!

VALUES: America IS changing — and for the worse. A recent Wall Street Journal poll discovered that America is pulling back 📉 from values that once defined it. “Patriotism” declined in importance from 70% to 38%. “Community involvement” dropped from 47% to 27%. In 1998, 62% deemed religion important — now it’s 37%.

Will we even have future generations to reverse this trend? It looks doubtful. Americans’ value of “having children” dropped from 59% to 30%. However, some categories went up. In 1998, 31% of Americans said money is a very important value. Today that number is 43%. What can we do? The solution is simple: “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.” — Mother Teresa. ❤‍🔥

  • Holy Week Traditions: Today is Spy Wednesday in Holy Week. (We’ll be hunting for coins.) Check out these Holy Week traditions from around the globe. Plus, the pope’s drip for Holy Week. 😉

  • Ever had a bad day? We thought so. Here are 6 easy steps to salvage any bad day.

  • Color Combos that just work. Excuse me while I swoon … and then go to Lowe’s.

  • YUM: Forget what you see in the Godfather or Goodfellas — this is what an Calabrian Italian grandmother actually cooks over a week. It doesn’t disappoint. 🍝

  • The New Wordle? Try Merriam-Webster’s super short “Name that Thing” game.

A list of things to teach your son (in no particular order): how to fish, how to hunt, knife and gun safety, love for nature and conservation, public speaking, how to throw a punch, how to change a tire, how to sell yourself with good conversation and a handshake, when to tip, how to tell a joke, how to talk to women, how to treat women, how to treat her parents, and when to hold your tongue (almost always).

Thanks, Mr6am.

Until Saturday,

P.S. We got some feedback last week — you guys are too sweet. Thanks, Molly!
