Plus: Mr6am's happiness plan, funerals in marriage, & old goalz
If you’re a new subscriber — welcome! Mrs6am is for you.
It’s a community of modern women who aspire to peace, beauty, healthy and whole marriages and family, wellness, and insight — without the junk our society throws at us. We’re so happy you’re here.
In today’s e-mail:
Skincare: Listen 👂 to your Korean friend!
Strep throat: So fun!
Maybe vitamin C is the answer? 🍊
A marriage quote to ponder with your man.
And a roadmap to happiness from Mr6am.
SKIN CARE: Raise your hand if you’re not double-cleansing before bed. 🙈 You! Yes you! Time to get with the program. In a nutshell, your every day cleanser isn’t getting the job done of removing makeup, dead skin, oils, pollutants, etc. So, you need: (1) an oil-based cleanser followed by (2) a water-based cleaner. These are the internet’s fav combos:
Splurge option: Elemis Pro-Collagen Balm + Elemis Enegizing Cleanser
Mid-Range option: The Boschia Cool Oil + Clear Complexion Cleanser
For anyone: The InkeyList Duo ($24!?)
Try my favorite first cleanse — green clean balm that melts your makeup away and smells amazing. Currently using Naturiam ginseng balm — super gentle, non-toxic, and scent-free. And second cleanse — this gentle LaRoche Posay and this aloe-vera balancing cleanser. Special thanks to my Korean girlfriend — everything I know about skincare I owe to her (you know who you are!). 😘
VITAMIN C: What doesn’t it do? 🍊 Immune booster, stress-reliever, and anti-aging skincare. How much do we need in our diet? The upper recommended limit is 2,000 mg per day, but I usually take 500 mg per day when my kids and friends get sick. How much do we need on our face? Once per day, with these best in class options and my current (budget) choice. And, remember, derms say apply vitamin C serum in the morning after cleansing and toner and before SPF.
STREP THROAT: You all already know this, but: PSA — strep throat is really bad right now. Should we be worried, can we prepare, and what can we do if our family gets it? First, deep breath: Strep A is surging, but only back to pre-pandemic levels. It’s not a new, mutated, super-virus. 😮💨 That said, it is serious so we shouldn’t downplay it — especially in children. So, can we prepare? Yes — it’s the usual stuff: wash hands, elbow sneezes, and not sharing cups. Plus, it seems dietary zinc “acts as a direct antimicrobial against the pathogen.” If we get it, The Mayo Clinic recommends calling your doctor for a confirmed diagnosis and usual rx of amoxicillin, which is in shortage nationally. As for me and my house, I’ll be going with the elderberry, apple cider vinegar, and the natural remedy and prevention route!
*This is not medical advice because we aren’t doctors — we’re more like this guy:
MARRIAGE: Mr6am and I feel like we’ve lived many lives together. What do we mean by that?
Everthing about your life will change — your daily schedule, your location and house, your kids (their number, interests, and personalities), your income, your friends, your hobbies, your sex life. Your husband will also change — even in unexpected ways. Author Heidi Priebe said, “To love someone long-term is to attend a thousand funerals of the people they used to be.”
One thing we’ve learned in (just? only?) 16 years of a happy marriage: Remain detached to your current life and cling only to your three most important things.
To be happy, you have to remain detached to the life of yesterday and accept what God brings TODAY. Remain detached but cling to what’s important — pick three non-negotiables. We’ve found that we need faith, fun, and intimacy in some form no matter what. Currently, ours are: daily prayer, early morning exercise together, and regular date nights. Hit reply and tell us your Big Three. The best wisdom is earned…and then shared! 🎁
*Here’s my roadmap to happiness as a man:
Pray every day and seek God’s guidance, choose a world class woman, start a family, don’t drift through life / instead make conscious decisions, eat meat, get 7 hours of sleep, no porn, go outdoors, seek mentors, cultivate good friendships, read good books, lift heavy, spend less than you make, work to be optimistic, and find outdoor hobbies. What did I miss? 😎
And this \/ reader is a fan of “taking fast action” and Mr6am — but not as much of a fan as I am. 😉
