What does it all mean?

Plus: Everyday summer dresses and Tongues of Fire

My dad says I would have loved my Great-Grandmother Bess.

After moving to a small town, she discovered she had more books than the local high school’s. So, she started the town’s first mobile library. She also raised five kids and was impeccably dressed. In the evening, she would swap her ‘day dress’ for an evening dress before dinner with family and guests.

Most of us won’t transition to evening wear, but we can elevate our mood, work, and confidence with a dress. In that thread, we’ve got:

  • Every day dresses: to dress up or dress down.

  • Gen Z slang: your one-step, no judgment guide.

  • Pentecost: Leave room for the Holy Spirit.

  • Cast Iron Pans: like your marriage, hot and well-seasoned.

  • Promo code: just in time for graduation gifts or treating yo’self

LANGUAGE: Keep up with the kids and get W. rizz. That’s not a typo.

Gen Z slang isn’t living rent-free — aka, it’s not taking up a ton of our attention/brain space, but it’s fun to know if ‘cap’ or “no cap” is a good or bad thing. (We’re still figuring that one out.) Until then, here’s what all the cool kids are saying:

  • It’s giving: Used to compare someone or something to another person or vibe. It’s giving 2005 might be used to describe someone with uggs, leggings, and a North Face Fleece . . .

  • Era: Accompanied with a word to describe the activity or event that defines the period. Example: I’m in my Taylor Swift era.

  • Situationship: An undefined relationship. The new “we’re talking.”

  • Rizz: Short for good charisma. Someone who is particularly great at flirting.

  • Touch grass: People who spend too much time inside and need exposure to nature.

  • Living rent free: A particularly memorable experience or amusement. That scene between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is living rent free in my mind.

  • Main Character: A term used to refer to another’s narcisstic attitude. She thinks she’s the main character with that outfit.

  • Glow Up: A good makeover

  • W.: A win.

  • L.: A loss.

  • That’s Cap: Telling a lie. No cap = I’m being honest.

  • A simp: Someone who does way too much for their crush. Leaning pathetic.

And a fun slang history lesson from two linguists.

FASHION: Need some dress relief? 😮‍💨 We’ve got your closet covered. We’re filling ours with every-day dresses: whether your researching projects, wrangling children, or running errands. This 100% linen stripe dress is a summer staple with its elastic waist and cap sleeve — and stays breezy and cool. Pair this sustainable cotton dress with flip flops during the day or some espadrilles and a silk scarf for evening. This breast-feeding friendly frock is a mama’s sage dream. The dress that looks great on any body type? A wrap dress — and on sale, too! This one checks all the boxes: belted, A-line, soft floral, pockets, and well-priced. We love the idea of changing to an evening dress, but all these pieces transition to night with a few accessory updates and a spray of perfume before your SO gets home.

PENTECOST: What’s as important as Christmas but not yet hijacked by secular culture?! 🔥 You won’t be seeing any Holy Spirit greeting cards, but you can make this Sunday a memorable Pentecost for your family.

Making memories in our house usually = food. There’s nothing like a bonfire and s’mores. Or these tongue of fire cupcakes. Maria Von Trapp directed dinner convos leading up to Pentecost about the gifts of the Holy Spirit (or you can add in this ancient prayer). If you catch a windy day, try flying a kite or setting up a windmill with your kids.

The physical elevates the spiritual: try dressing in red or wearing an H.S. inspired piece — like this delicate necklace or this pendant. A special thank you to Jessica from Telos Art Shop for these special offers — Get 15% off your orders over $150 using MRS6AM-15 or MRS6AM for free first class shipping. Physical reminders are the best…especially when they’re so pretty.

Want to grow in devotion to the Holy Spirit? Jacques hasn’t steered us wrong yet.

CAST IRON: It doubles as cookware and a weapon. 😇 However you use it, cast iron is having a moment. And why not? It’s versatile, durable, and pretty. There’s also the relief that comes when you know you aren’t consuming microplastics. Iron deficient? Combine cast iron with high heat and acidic foods. But, like all your favorite things (husband, heels, or house plants), you’ve got to treat them well to make them last. Here are cast iron mistakes to avoid so you can keep it for life.

OUT OF THE FRYING PAN, INTO THE FIRE.

Be counter-cultural — start a family! “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them.” - Pslam 127:3-5. Thank you Mrs6am for my beautiful children! 🏹
