Summer Fashion Rut Busted
Plus: A Mom "quiz", cycles, kid-friendly cuisine
Siri, turn on “vacation mode.” 🌴
Mr and Mrs6am Mrs8am are headed to the beach with the fam. What’s that mean for you all? Enjoy a Mrs6am lite for the next week—some revamped content from way back when we had ten subscribers. (Sorry Mom, you’ll see some repeats.)
But our Kitchen Sink? Always full to the brim with new content. ✨
We’ll be back with a tan and ready to hit the ground running. Gah, who are we kidding? We’ll be doing laundry. Until then, we’ve got some goodies for you:
Wallpaper: Scroll-Stopping Scrolls
End the Summer with on a (fragrant) high note
How to get your kids cooking for you (spoiler alert: it’s a long game)
Different Moms at Church— believe me, you know all of them
Make your periods work (out) for you
HOME: If it’s been around for 900 years, is it still a trend? Wallpaper has been decorating homes and influencing paintings for centuries. 😍 Bring beauty indoors with a timeless Morris, add texture to your walls this stunning block print, or fill your home with coordinating patterns like this mama — complete with tips and tricks.
Not ready to wallpaper a whole room? Do a test run — here are some suggestions for placing wallpaper in unassuming places. In the meantime, maybe I’ll send this to Mr6am…
FRAGRANCE: Need some date night inspo? Head to the mall! ✋🏽Wait! Hear me out. Last year, Mr6am took me to Nordstrom’s Fragrance Department with a list of perfumes to try. We grabbed their fragrance specialist, and she explained all the scents as we tried them on. It was like a tour of Italy from a local ... but at the mall. Even if you aren’t ready to splurge, just grab samples and decide later. Fair warning: It’s kind of like lingerie for the nose …
No time for Nordstrom’s? — we have you covered with fresh summer scents. Here’s the science: most perfumes have three distinct layers. They’re complex — just like we are. 😆The top note lasts for 5-15 minutes and gives the first impression. The middle note (usually full-bodied) lasts for 4-6 hours and is the main scent. Finally, the base note gives the fragrance its underlying aroma and lasts around 6 hours. There’s much more to learn — like the 6 different types of perfume. But, you don’t need to know the science or the taxonomy to know what smells good. Draw him close at a summer picnic with these scents:
Byredo Young Rose Eau de Parfum — Not just any floral scent, but layered with Sichuan pepper for a romantic blend. The pepper is not overwhelming but brings just enough 🔥.
Burberry “Her” — Think: gorgeous house on the beach, hydrangeas everywhere. It’s light and floral, rich and jasminey.
Baccarat Rouge 540 — You’ll be obsessed. It’s worth the hype and the price. Flirty and fun, warm and sweet — just like a summer night.
Chantecaille Tiare Fragrance — Wear this and you’ll send yourself and your hubby to a tropical oasis — lily of the valley, Italian bergamot, jasmine, red rose, orchids, musk, and vanilla. Skip the beach vacation and spray this in your hair instead.
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau de Toilette — Perfect for every day use. Lime and cedar, a perfect balance between fruity and floral.
Black Orchid: My personal fav with lots of compliments to boot. Both modern and classic. Dark florals, black currant, luxiorious
Don’t let the prices scare you. 50mL of perfume contains hundreds of sprays and will last close to a year of application a couple times per week. 100 mL could last 2 years.
COOKING W/KIDS: We don’t do Home Economics here. We do Home Wreck-onomics 🙄. Recently, both my teens made dinner for the family. It takes awhile to get there (and a lot of big messes and burned dinners), but it’s amazing how I can hand them a cookbook and get dinner in two hours. I’ve started a list of basic recipes I want my kids to have in their back pocket before leaving home — a family soup recipe, Mr6am’s marinara & meatballs, homemade pretzels, chocolate chip cookies, and chili. No, not healthy, but yes, feels-like-home kind of meals.
But, where to start? Work up to family chef using simple recipes with minimal ingredients — perfect for an elementary-aged kid to do (and clean up!) on their own. Here’s a quick bread, a healthy treat, or easy-to-make scones for some inspiration. Bon Apetit! 👩🏻🍳
CYCLE SYNCING: Sync workouts with your menstrual cycle? The U.S. Women’s soccer team did — and they brought home gold twice!🥇What does it mean, and how did they do it? The elite athletes tracked their menstrual cycles (just like heart rates) and found that training optimized during the first half of their cycle when estrogen was on the rise. Here’s a basic look at the phases of your cycle and how to change your workouts to optimize growth and rest. The information can be a bit overwhelming, so start small.
Get in touch with your cycle using these best-in-class cycle/fertility monitors — you’ll know when you ovulate and peak 🏔, when you’re infertile, and when your period is coming. And you’ll be ready to hit heavy weights and a HIIT workout with your hubby .🏋

You know her.
That woman who is so delightfully herself? She’s quirky and genuine, polite and comfortable in her own skin. She makes you want to be like her but like yourself- all at the same time.
That’s our goal for Mrs6am — for you to leave our newsletter looking less like everyone else and more like yourself.
Here’s the question Could you hit “reply” and tell us what you loved and didn’t love about this issue? We appreciate ANY feedback, good or bad, and look forward to getting to know you. 🤎
